Travel Awakens Leaders

Important Health & Safety Alert: COVID-19

Nyah Project develops youth leaders through transformative experiences abroad.  We intentionally fill opportunity gaps through access to experiential fellowships based on the pillars of leadership, inclusion, impact and purpose.

Our belief that travel awakens leaders remains stronger than ever.

Notwithstanding, the growing health and safety impacts of  COVID-19 virus (“coronavirus”), implore us to take extra precautions to limit potential exposure and spread of the novel COVID-19 within our community. Our top priority is the health, safety and well-being of you, our Fellows and the Nyah Project team.

Accordingly, we are undertaking the following actions:

  • Annual Celebration: all scheduled in-person meetings and events are postponed for now, including our previously scheduled April 1, 2020 Annual Celebration. We will keep the community updated as plans to reschedule move forward.

  • Virtual Information Session: We will host an invite-only Finalist FAQ webinar on Friday, March 27, 2020 for all Finalists, their parents/guardians, and nomination partner organizations to complete a full overview of the Nyah Project Fellowship program, our procedures, and health and safety protocols.

  • 2020 Fellowship Status: the summer International Experiential Fellowship is still scheduled for July 6 - 21, 2020.  At this time, we will continue to monitor the guidelines and protocols implemented by international and domestic authorities, as they remain critical to our decision-making on how to proceed.  Important factors that we are considering include: (1) almost 4 months remain until the scheduled Fellowship, during which time the current global health crisis could dramatically subside, (2) there are zero reported cases of COVID-19 in Rwanda, (3) the timeline of the potential COVID-19 vaccine, (4) the impact of CDC Level 3 or higher country notices on our planned travel itinerary, as well as (5) other mitigating factors. Above all, the health and safety of our Fellows and team remain the top priority.

We ask for your compassion and cooperation as we navigate this temporary, but uncertain period.  Should you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact our team at: info@nyahproject.org or via the Contact Us form on our website: www.nyahproject.org

Onward,

Leigh-Ann A. Buchanan,
Founder & Board Chair
